Our hospice has been carrying out the mission of perinatal care for 16 years. We cooperate with many entities in the Lublin Voivodeship, such as hospitals and gynecological and obstetric clinics. The variety of issues related to perinatal care prompted us to organize the conference “Contemporary challenges for hospice perinatal care”, which took place on March 15, 2024 at Dwór Anna in Jakubowice Konińskie-Kol.
The main goal of organizing the event was to create an opportunity for specialists to meet and share experience, as well as to improve the qualifications of medical teams in the field of perinatal care. The meeting was attended by exceptional guests from all over Poland – representatives of pediatric and perinatal hospices as well as doctors and nurses from hospital facilities.
The conference was inaugurated by prof. Ph.D. n. med. Janusz Kocki (Provincial genetics consultant) presenting the classification of the most common disease entities in hospice perinatal care. The professor is an outstanding specialist in the field of genetic diseases of children and adults, as well as congenital defects and developmental disorders. He runs, among others: differential diagnosis of genetic and environmental diseases. In the implementation of perinatal care services, it is important to know the legal provisions presented to the conference participants by attorney Agnieszka Dudzińska.
Dr. Aneta Libera from the Clinical Department of Obstetrics, Perinatology and Gynecological Diseases SPSK 4 in Lublin, pointed out the advantages of cooperation between a reference center (hospital) and a hospice based on many years of experience.
A lecture on perinatal care in the pediatric palliative care model was presented by Father Dr. Filip Buczyński, founder of the perinatal hospice in LHD.
During the conference, discussion panels were held in which participants exchanged their experiences and good practices, as well as the difficulties they face in everyday perinatal care.
A panel discussion on the first meeting with a mother/couple expecting the birth of a sick child was led by the coordinators of the LHD perinatal hospice: Aneta Libera, Ph.D., Katarzyna Łukasiuk, M.A. and Joanna Głowacka, M.A. The coordinators emphasized the extremely important attitude of understanding and subjective approach of medical staff during the first meeting with parents in such a difficult situation for them.
Members of the team for preparing the draft long-term strategy for the development of palliative and hospice care at the Minister of Health, prof. Maciej Niedźwiecki and Father Dr. Filip Buczyński conducted a panel discussion on the future of pediatric palliative care.
The full scope of support in perinatal care would not be possible without social assistance. This form of help for the family, provided free of charge by the perinatal hospice in LHD, was presented by Anna Maj, MA. Social support is an integral part of medical management in hospice care.
The conference took place in the picturesquely located Anna Manor, whose atmosphere and historical atmosphere delighted our guests.
